FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - For the first time in his NFL career, CeeDee Lamb answered media questions at his locker on Wednesday.
Lamb entered the NFL during COVID restrictions, so much of his interactions with media have been outside the practice field or over video conference.
It’s not the only new locker dynamic for Lamb, who moved in next to Cowboys QB Dak Prescott this offseason.
Lamb was asked on Wednesday if he requested to be next to Prescott.
“Actually, Dak did,” Lamb said with a smile. “We kind of came together and I need to be next to him, and we gotta get this ball rolling.”
“My two other locker mates left, so I was a little lonely,” Prescott joked with reporters. “Just being able to bring him closer, more conversations, just he's right there, accessible to talk, and just communicate.”
Communication is just one part of the connection that Prescott and Lamb need to strengthen in 2022. Amari Cooper was traded to Cleveland, Cedrick Wilson signed with the Dolphins, and Michael Gallup likely won’t be healthy for the beginning of the season. If Lamb and Prescott aren’t in sync, the offense is likely to sputter.
“We're continuing to work on (the details) and that's a process,” Prescott said. “That's something this whole offense has hung our hat on is getting better in the details.”
Lamb will be asked to be the #1 receiver for the Cowboys in 2022, something he readily welcomes.
“If I don't get going, nothing is going, honestly. That’s how I feel, and that's how I approach the game. And just having this pressure - if you will - on my back, it's whatever.”
Lamb recognizes that part of being the #1 receiver also means leading the way for younger players.
“I was all in Amari's ear, and I'm sure he was tired of me asking questions, but he gave me an answer for every question I needed,” Lamb said. “If those guys need me, you know I’m already there, and they know that.”
While Lamb is just settling into his role as Prescott’s main target, it’s one that his quarterback hopes he holds on to for a long time.
“Hopefully, he is my receiver till I'm done playing.”
