DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys haven't received much good news on the injury front recently. That all changed on Monday.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, an MRI revealed that Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch has a right shoulder stinger, not a neck injury.
Vander Esch had neck surgery in Dec. 2019 after being diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis. The injury limited him to just nine games during the 2019 season. But Rapoport says Vander Esch's previous neck injury is "unrelated" to his new issue.
Rapoport notes that Vander Esch "may miss time," but the Cowboys have to feel like they dodged a bullet here after he exited early in the team's 40-34 overtime loss to Jacksonville and never returned.
With Vander Esch sidelined, the Cowboys defense was shredded by the Jaguars, who had 503 yards on offense on Sunday.
