DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys are heading into a critical road matchup with their division rivals, the Washington Football Team, on Sunday afternoon, and they are not lacking in confidence.

During his Thursday afternoon press availability, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was so confident in fact, that he ostensibly guaranteed a win for the Cowboys, noting that his team enjoys being an underdog, and is confident in their preparation and talent.

"We know what people think of us, we love that," McCarthy said. "We're comfortable who we are, where we are, but I'm excited about what's in front of us because, you know, we, you know, we're gonna win this game. I'm confident that in just you know, the prep that's going into it. But more importantly, we're gonna, we want to improve to along the way."

Dallas, who is coming off of an ugly 27-17 win over the New Orleans Saints last Thursday, has had its fair share of struggles this season, despite its 8-4 record.

With that said, however, the Cowboys have been able to find ways to win games in unconventional ways throughout that time, which is usually the hallmark of a contending team.

"I mean, over the course of a year, you can't just win one way in this league, and it's not practical to think you're gonna win," McCarthy said. "It's just, it's just not practical. I've never seen it happen. I've seen teams go on great runs, that, you know, their health probably plays a big part in it, whether you know, all five of your linemen together or the quarterback. So you do have that, but to me, this is all part of a normal challenge."

One of the ways the Cowboys have been able to do that, according to McCarthy, is by staying accountable, and focusing on improving each and every week.

"It's staying on top of the details within the numbers," McCarthy said. "I mean, I understand what the stats say, and in stats can be misleading one way or the other, we understand that. So we're just really focused on self-improvement and winning, you know, we got to do whatever we got to do to win the game. But these guys are very accountable for the work ethic of our football team, the whole space is very high. They're very accountable."

Dallas and Washington will kick off this Sunday at noon central time, in what will be a critical game for the NFC East Division race.
