DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys selected Tulsa offensive tackle Tyler Smith with the No. 24 overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
With the selection of Smith, the Cowboys now add some much needed help up front along the offensive line for Dak Prescott, who was constantly under fire last season.
Seen as a raw prospect, Smith may not be able to come in and help immediately, and will take time to learn the NFL game.
However, he is seen as a potential long term replace for Cowboys veteran tackle Tyron Smith, and could fit in at guard for the time being.
Smith's story is even more intriguing, considering the fact that he overcame Blounts disease as a child, and was able to remain a top NFL prospect.
Per Johns Hopkins Medicine, "Blount's disease is a condition found in children that affects the growth plates around the knee. The disease causes the growth plate near the inside of the knee to either slow down or stop making new bone. Meanwhile, the growth plate near the outside of the knee continues to grow normally."
The Cowboys will now be off the clock until tomorrow, when they pick with the 24th pick of the second round.
