The Cowboys have agreed to a one-year deal with free-agent receiver T.Y. Hilton, the announced on Monday.

Ian Rapoport and Jane Slater of NFL Network were the first to report the news.

"It's a great addition. Obviously, he's been working all year. He's in great shape medically. … We'll get him out there Wednesday and get him acclimated," head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday of signing Hilton.

Hilton, a 10-year veteran, gives the Cowboys the weapon they were seeking when they spent weeks courting free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who left the team's headquarters at The Star last Tuesday without a deal.

According to CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson, Hilton's addition won't prevent the Cowboys from pursuing a deal with Beckham. Anderson reports that Dallas elected to move forward with Hilton because he can play "right now."

Hilton, 33, spent the first ten seasons of his career with the Colts, but hasn't played this season after the Colts elected not to offer him a new contract after his previous one expired after the 2021 season.

Hilton, a four-time Pro Bowler, has been an excellent receiver when healthy. He's had five 1,000-yard seasons including an NFL-best 1,148 yards in 2016 for the Colts. But he's missed 16 games over the last four seasons due to various injuries. His last 1,000-yard season came in 2018 when he had 1,270 yards receiving.

In 10 games in 2021, Hilton had 23 catches for 331 yards.
