DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys seem to be in line to get a potential playmaker back into the fold, in first-year wide receiver, James Washington.
Washington, who signed with the Cowboys this offseason, has yet to play this for Dallas in 2022 after suffering a foot injury in training camp.
But during his visit with 105.3 The Fan on Friday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told K&C Masterpiece that Washington should be able to see the field against the Texans on Sunday.
"He might get playing time here against the Texans," Jones said. "I know this, he's having some good practices. He really hasn't gotten on the field for us. But we all remember him at Oklahoma State, and he did some really good things. He's showing real explosiveness in his practicing, and he's definitely a player that can help us, and help us now."
Washington himself also seems to believe that he will be able to go on Sunday, and is chomping at the bit to return.
“It’s been said,” Washington said this week. “I don’t know. It all comes down to the coaches’ decision. But for my part, all I can do is continue to put in good reps and stay ready. ...It’s kind of like a kid waiting on Christmas. I’ve been waiting to put the star on my helmet since I signed here.”
And if that wasn't enough of an indication that Washington will be back in the fold imminently, Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy also seemed confident that he will see the field this week.
Based off on Wednesday and Thursday’s work, I think he’s ready to go," McCarthy said.
Washington was brought in to help replace the losses of Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson, both of whom are now in the AFC.
During his time with Pittsburgh, Washington 114 catches on 218 targets for 1,628 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He played in 60 games with 25 starts, averaging 27.2 yards per game on 1.9 catches, and 14.3 yards per catch.
