DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys released their 2023 schedule on Thursday night, and on paper, it appears that head coach Mike McCarthy and his group have their work cut out for them if they are going to make the playoffs for a third straight season, something the organization hasn't done since they made the playoffs in five consecutive seasons from 1991-95.

After finishing last season with a 12-5 record for the second consecutive season, Dallas advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs but was once again eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, Dallas was able to re-sign key contributors from last season's team to new deals, including Leighton Vander Esch, Donovan Wilson and Tony Pollard, and they traded for a No. 2 wideout in Brandin Cooks and a former All-Pro cornerback in Stephon Gilmore.
The bad news for Dallas is that they'll go up against some formidable opponents this season.
According to the NFL, the Cowboys' strength of schedule is tied with the New York Giants and the New England Patriots for the third-toughest slate in the league. The Eagles have the most difficult road with an opponent's win percentage of .566, while the Commanders have the eighth-hardest strength of schedule.
Dallas will face teams with a combined record of 156-128-4 and a combined winning percentage of .549. Going into the 2022 season, Dallas' opponents had a winning percentage of .462.
The schedule includes eight home games and night road games after the NFL added a 17th game to the schedule in 2021. Dallas had nine home games and eight road games last year.
After opening up the last two seasons against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in primetime, the Cowboys will face the New York Giants in the Meadowlands on Sunday Night Football.
Dallas' schedule also includes four games against the AFC East (Jets, Bills, Patriots and Dolphins), four games against the NFC West (Rams, 49ers, Seahawks and Cardinals), and the extra road game against Kellen Moore and the Los Angeles Chargers.
