The Cowboys knew they had to get tougher in the offseason after they were out-physicaled by the 49ers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs last season.
No one is talking about the Cowboys' physicality being a problem heading into the re-match with the physical 49ers on Sunday because Dallas prepared for this type of game in the offseason.
"I think that the 49er game last year made us re-visit the bulk that we had in the middle of our defensive front. We did re-visit it and we have re-visited it continually. That game impacted what we are today in the most important way, and that's to be able to do something about the run. We're going to have to do that. I like what we have in mind," Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Friday on the K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan.
During last year's playoff matchup, the 49ers deployed Elijah Mitchell as their running back, who ran for 96 yards on 26 carries (3.6 YPC). This time around, Dallas has a much more daunting task ahead of them after San Francisco went out and traded for Christian McCaffrey in the middle of the season.
McCaffrey piled up over 100 yards from scrimmage in seven of the 12 games he's played for the 49ers this season.
