DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Despite not practicing on Wednesday or Thursday as he manages a foot injury, Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is expected to get in a limited practice on Friday and play in Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday morning.
Lawrence injured his foot in last Sunday's loss to the Packers, but when he spoke about the injury with reporters on Thursday, he revealed that he's dealing with much more than that.
"I got a little injury with the foot – both feet, actually – my knees,” Lawrence said. “It’s just all about just trying to maintain what I have but also take care of me throughout the week, so I can be fresh to go out there on Sunday and do what I need to do. Right knee hurts worse than my feet. So, it’s like I’m dealing with so much right now and just trying to stay focused on the task at hand and go out there and win a football game."
Lawrence missed ten games last season with a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot and said his latest foot injury is connected to that injury.
“Yeah, it does connect with last year’s injury,” Lawrence said. “I just think over the [course] of the season, just all the banging and stuff, [might’ve] fractured it a little bit more. I’ll be alright. I got screws in it, so it’s hard to say if it’s fractured or not.”
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones spoke about Lawrence's foot injury during his visit Friday with the K&C Masterpiece, saying that he's not concerned with the pass rusher's ability to play against Minnesota.
"We got a good report. It's certainly something we'll be monitoring, but that will be it. He can play. It's not grabbing in a way that restricts his ability to really push off. I surely don't see it as an issue (Sunday)."
Lawrence has five sacks, 42 tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries this season.
