DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys made a major move towards freeing cap space on Wednesday afternoon, restructuring the deals of three key veteran offensive linemen.

Those moves, which create upwards of $17 million in cap space, involved guard Zack Martin, as well as tackles La'el Collins and Tyron Smith, not only move the Cowboys under the cap but will allow them ample space to help improve the roster this offseason, as well as give them room to secure draft picks as well.

That cap, which was reduced to $182.5 million for next season, will force the Cowboys to be a bit more conservative than in years past.

This might not be the end of things for Dallas either, with players like DeMarcus Lawrence and Ezekiel Elliott also rumored to be in consideration for a restructures.

That said, the franchise already has their eyes set on the free-agent market, and according to Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, they are looking to be eyeing one side of the ball in particular.

“It gives us an opportunity to continue to improve on the defensive side of the ball," Jones said at Dak Prescott's press conference on Wednesday.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones echoed those sentiments on Wednesday as well, telling reporters that he is "convinced we can put a team around Dak. Financially, I like where we are.

For now, though, the Cowboys have taken yet another positive step towards improving a severely depleted roster -- one that ranked near the bottom in the vast majority of defensive categories in 2020.
