The Dallas Cowboys will open their 2023 training camp in Oxnard without one of their top players due to contract negotiations - and potentially a holdout.

Offensive guard Zack Martin, who has been reportedly unhappy with his contract situation with the team, did not join the Cowboys to Oxnard on Tuesday, according to reports.

Martin, an eight-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro selection, has played and started in 137 games over nine seasons with Dallas, becoming one of the NFL's top offensive linemen of the last decade.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked about the situation with Martin during his opening press conference on Tuesday, but declined to go into detail.

"Nothing to concern me with what we’ve got going in contract discussions," Jones told the media.

Jones was approached by media members following the press conference with the report that it is Martin's intention to not report to camp.

"I don't want to get into what we are doing here or not doing, I just want to say that he is in our plans. And I don't want to diminish anything here about his not being here today or not being here today... it's just something we don't need to discuss and I don't need to discuss for the benefit of all of us."

Martin, who signed a six-year extension in 2018, is currently making an average of $13.5 million per year.
