DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys have themselves a penalty problem, and after their win over the New York Giants on Sunday, Stephen Jones has had just about enough of it.
And during his Monday visit with 105.3 The Fan's K&C Masterpiece, Jones voiced his opinion on the matter.
"Anytime you're up there at the top in penalties, that's not good," Jones said. "I think it's a testament to whoever we're playing that we're overcoming a lot of that. That catches up to you when you get to playoff football and you're playing against teams playing at a very high level. That's hard to overcome. Certainly, we've got to clean that up."
Can you blame him?
The Cowboys currently sit as the second most penalized team in the NFL, averaging 7.5 penalties for 56.9 yards per game, behind only the disaster that is the Denver Broncos.
In fact, in their three losses to Tampa Bay, Green Bay, and Philadelphia alone, the Cowboys have been penalized 29 times for 228 yards.
And in two of those cases (Green Bay and Philadelphia), the Cowboys lost by single digits.
Against the Giants on Sunday, Dallas was penalized a whopping 13 times for 86 yards.
That is not acceptable in the eyes of the Cowboys executive vice president.
"Against the Giants, it was not at a level that was acceptable," Jones continued. "I know Coach McCarthy is all over it. When you got some of your best players getting the penalties, that adds to some of the frustration. But I just really feel like we can clean this up, and if we want to get to where we want to get to, we're going to have to clean it up."
Dallas has six more chances to figure it out before the playoffs begin.
