DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Things have gotten a little bit more serious at the Cowboys headquarters at The Star, as three more players have joined defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and defensive tackle Carlos Watkins in the COVID-19 protocol, head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday.
The three players added to the protocol were wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, safeties Malik Hooker and Israel Mukuamu.
As a result, the Cowboys conducted meetings virtually Sunday and Monday out of caution, while McCarthy expects that the team will return to practice Tuesday.
“We’re just being cautious and want to make sure that we contain this outbreak and just be smart with that.”
Quinn and Watkins were sent home from AT&T Stadium about 90 minutes prior to kickoff on Saturday night "out of an abundance of caution," the team said in a statement. McCarthy said Monday that Quinn was able to virtually attend all of the team's meetings and that "he's doing well."
Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reports that Watkins and Lamb were both fully vaccinated, while Mukuamu received both shots and was in the waiting period for full vaccination. Hooker had the first of his two shots as of July 28.
As for Quinn, the Cowboys had previously announced that all coaches were fully vaccinated and the roster is at a 93-percent vaccination rate against COVID-19.
According to David Moore of the Morning News, an individual must produce two negative tests separated by 24 hours to return once he is no longer experiencing symptoms.
An unvaccinated individual will be forced to miss at least ten days, while a vaccinated person can return sooner.
This is a developing news story.
