And with the pick, the Mavs landed another potential contributor to the rotation for next season, in Marquette wing, Olivier-Maxence Prosper.
The Mavs acquired the trade exception via the move for Duke center Dereck Lively earlier in the night, in which the sent the No. 10 pick and Davis Bertans to the Oklahoma City Thunder for the No. 12 pick - eventually selecting the Blue Devils big man.
Holmes, 29, should be able to immediately come in to Dallas and compete for big minutes in the rotation, considering his ability to hit from deep on the pick and roll, as well as block shots.
In fact, over the last two seasons, Holmes has hit 40 percent (2021-22) and 62.5 percent (2022-23) from beyond the arc, and has averaged as many as 1.6 blocks per game in a single season (2020-21).
Meanwhile, Prosper also has a chance to make an impact, albeit maybe not immediately. The 6-foot-8, 230 pound wing has the size, athleticism and tools - particularly on the defensive end - to be an solid player for Dallas down the line.
Last season with Marquette, Prosper averaged 12.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and .7 steals per game.
