DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has been awarded the Western Conference Coach of the Month award for games played in March and April, the NBA announced Tuesday.

This is the first time a Dallas coach has won the award since Rick Carlisle took home the honor in February 2011. Dallas would go on to win their first championship a few months later.

Kidd led the Mavericks to a 16-5 record in March/April, including victories over Golden State, Utah (twice), Boston, Brooklyn and Milwaukee. The Mavs finished as the fourth seed in the Western Conference this season - their highest seed since earning the No. 3 seed in 2011.

The Mavs finished with a 52-30 record - their first 50-win season since the 2014-15 (50-32) season. Dallas also finished with the fifth-best record in the NBA.

Kidd and the Mavs will have their work cut out for them in their first-round series against the Utah Jazz with the status of superstar guard Luka Doncic in question after he suffered a strained left calf in the team's final regular-season game on Sunday.

Game 1 will be held at noon CT on Saturday at the American Airlines Center.
