DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks are facing a difficult decision on the future of their second star, Kristaps Porzingis, this summer, in what could be a defining offseason for the franchise.
Porzingis, who struggled for the majority of the 2021 season, including in the playoffs, has been the subject of a host of speculation in recent weeks, as Mavs fans everywhere wonder if he will ever give the franchise a return on their initial investment.
Porzingis, however, remains confident, posting on social media that, not only is he heading into the summer with a "chip on his shoulder", but that he is working towards coming back better than ever.
"Going into this off-season with a chip on my shoulder and I'm going to use all this noise to fuel me even more," Porzingis wrote on the post. "Only focused on what I can control and that's grinding to be better each and every day.

His inconsistencies in 2021 were obvious in his stats as well, with Porzingis averaging 20.1 points (his lowest mark since 2016-17), while hitting 47.6-percent (a career best) from the floor, as well as 37.6-percent from three, securing 8.9 rebounds and blocking 1.3 shots (a career low) in 43 of a possible 72 regular season games.
Heading into his first fully healthy offseason in quite sometime, however, Porzingis will have every chance to turn the corner, and become what the Mavs need him to be moving forward.
