The Rangers will be without one of their top starters as they have placed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain. Texas announced the move ahead of the club's series finale against the Padres.

Eovaldi was scheduled to start Sunday's game but was scratched from his second consecutive start. Reliever Grant Anderson was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to take Eovaldi's spot on the roster, and Cody Bradford will start in place of Eovaldi against San Diego.

According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy expects Eovaldi to "only miss the minimum time or close to it."

Eovaldi, who hasn't pitched since July 18, has experienced a dip in velocity in four of his previous five outings.

The 33-year-old has been the club's best pitcher this season, posting a record of 11-3 with an ERA of 2.69 in 19 starts.
