When the news of an agreement between the MLB and the MLBPA was reported Thursday, Braves fans instantly shifted their focus to another pressing issue—Freddie Freeman’s free agency. Well, we may have a resolution to the Freeman sweepstakes sooner rather than later.
According to the MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Dodgers negotiations with the 2020 NL MVP are “intensifying” and he followed up with a report that a conclusion could be reached in the next 24 hours and “possibility by the end of tonight.”
The Braves failed to reach a deal with the face of their franchise prior to the lockout as Freeman turned down the Braves’ offer of a 5-year, $135 million deal with the 32-year-old first baseman reportedly seeking a 6th year. Details of LA's offer to Freeman—a California native— are unknown at this time.
The Dodgers have been seen as the primary threat to sign Freeman with the Yankees also expressing significant interest.
