When it comes to baseball caps, New Era is the king, but a new collection is rubbing Pirates fans the wrong way.
The hat company recently released their “Local Market” collection and they honestly look like a merit badge sash you would’ve had in scouts as a kid.
The front of the hat features the team’s logo then something that is supposed to represent the city. Many also have area codes on them but the 412,724, 814 are not represented on the Bucco’s hat.
The Pirates hat features a steel beam on it while one side has the Pirates red bandana logo and the other says “Pittsburgh” “Steel City” with the logo of the 1979 World Series underneath.
But wait, there’s more. The back of the hat has an outline of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with the year 1887 (the year the Pirates were founded), The Pittsburgh script and the word YINZER on it.
UPDATE: New Era has reportedly pulled the "Local Market" hats amid backlash.
People on Twitter gave their two-cents (of course)
Just to clarify, this is not a hat that will be worn on the field. If you'd like to buy your own you can get it here.
