In the closing minute of the Pittsburgh Penguins v. Bruins game Tuesday night, Marchand sucker punched Jarry in the head and followed that up by hitting Jarry in the face with his stick.

Marchand was given a match penalty which triggers an automatic review from the NHL Department of Player Safety (DOPS).

On Wednesday, the DOPS announced there would be an in-person hearing via Zoom for Marchand regarding the incident.

An in-person hearing means a multiple game suspension is completely in play and can be used by the DOPS.

The Department stepped in and handed Marchand a six-game suspension.

This is Marchand’s second suspension of the 2021-22 NHL season; He was previously suspended three games for a slew- foot in late November.

Prior to the incident Tuesday night, Marchand has been given seven suspensions and fined five times for his antics on the ice.

For comparison, Tom Wilson has only been suspended six times.

DPOS defined Marchand as a repeat offender and will serve the eighth suspension of his career.
