BRADENTON, FL. (93.7 The Fan) – Head Coach Andy Bednar said he ran a baseball practice Monday night where there were gigantic snowflakes. On Thursday, it was sunny and 80 degrees for the Mars High School workout.

Bednar and his team visited LECOM Park and got to work out on the field on Thursday as they were in the area playing in a high school baseball tournament. Bednar said it all worked out because he also will have the opportunity to see his son pitch against Toronto as he returns from right lat tightness.

So, for Andy Bednar to see his team practice on the same field where his son, David, is a now two-time all-star.

“The word I use all the time is just surreal,” Andy Bednar told 93.7 The Fan. He said David also provides an example to the Planets team of the possibilities of realizing your dream.

“It’s a you-can-get-there-from-here feeling,” Bednar said. “The kids are super-excited. They were excited to come to a Pirates Spring Training game, let alone being able to get on the field and watch BP and have David throw in it. It’s completely surreal.”

Andy said he and his wife are so proud of their son. Not only for the stuff he does on the field, but the active role he takes in the community. Dad said his son sets a great example for his brother and sister, but for all in the school and Western Pennsylvania.

“He’s just got that Yinzer,” Andy Bednar said. “It just seems like people from Pittsburgh have that special bond. He loves going to Steelers games, Penguins games and everyone knows his affinity for Iron City beer.”

“Definitely a Yinzer to the bone.”

Another special father-son moment for the Bednar’s created by the sport they each love.
