PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) Four years and three teams later, the crowds at PNC Park still love Andrew McCuthen.
Now in his third season with the Philadelphia Phillies, McCutchen still feels the love from the home team that drafted him into Major League Baseball.
Every time McCutchen makes a plate appearance at PNC Park he is met with a roar of applause and cheers from the Pittsburgh faithful.
This may be the first time since 2018 that McCutchen is visiting PNC Park, but it’s still chilling to hear the crowd show their love every time he takes an at-bat.
Even PNC Park public address announcer Tim DeBacco has a little more pep in his voice than his usual visiting team readings.
While with the Pittsburgh Pirates, McCutchen turned into one of, if not the best Bucco since the turn of the century.
A first round pick who played nine seasons, was a five-time All-Star and won an MVP in 2013.
One thing Pirates fans will never forget about McCuthen , though, is that in 2013, he led a team that brought the playoffs back to Pittsburgh for the first time since 1992.
Cutch was more than just a great ball player in Pittsburgh, he also became a fan favorite off the field with his humanitarian efforts and community involvement.
Now 34-years-old, McCutchen is having a solid season with the Phillies; Batting .238 with 77 hits including 20 home runs and 58 RBIs.
The Pirates have been able to largely get the upper hand against one of their all-time greats.
McCutchen has played against the Pirates in seven game accumulating 33 plate appearances.
In those 33 PAs, he has struck out 10 times and holds a .185 batting average.
