PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He immediately becomes one of the best Pirates power prospects even though he is out of minor league options. MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reporting the Bucs sent cash to the Mets for outfielder Alexander Canario (three home runs, .419 on-base percentage, .611 slugging & 1.030 OPS in Spring Training this year).

The 24-year-old was the 12th ranked prospect in the Cubs organization last year. He’s 6’, 212 pounds and hit 18 home runs with 13 doubles in 64 games in AAA last year with Chicago. In 25 at bats with the Cubs last year, seven hits, a double and a home run with a .357 on base percentage. His breakout was the 37 home runs, 26 doubles and 97 RBI in 2022 starting in High A and finishing in AAA.

With the power, and MLB.com gives him the highest rank in power potential score (only 2024 first-round pick Konnor Griffin also has a 60 power score of the Bucs non-MLB starters), he also has the lowest score in terms of hitting for average. He hit .243 in AAA in 2024 with 86 strikeouts. He struck out 11 times in the 25 at bats with the Cubs last year.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates moved pitcher Jared Jones from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
