PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Talk of Bryan Reynolds contract has been prominent the last couple of weeks. Joining the Fan Morning Show on Friday, Bucs general manager Ben Cherington had little to add about a potential contract extension with the current MLB leader in home runs.

“Nothing is going on with Bryan Reynolds,” Cherington said on 93.7 The Fan. “I’ll be saying the same thing I always said. We appreciate him so much. We respect him, love him as a player, glad he’s a Pirate. We are excited to see him in left field today for our opener.”

“He’s off to a great start. That’s where our focus is, on the field. He’s been leading the charge for us so far.”

Cherington said they’ve love to see Reynolds a Pirate for a long time.

“We want to be a position where we have that door open with players and we can have those conversations,” Cherington told the Fan Morning Show. “We hope that over time we line up with the right guys. Those are conversations that I always prefer to keep private between us and players. As we get into the home opener we want to do the best we can to keep focus on the field.”

When asked about a timeline for a deal getting done with Reynolds, he asked to move on to the next topic. He did say more often than not those conversations happen before the season starts, but there is no deadline. They could still have conversations during the season.
