Earlier on Tuesday, The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi said that the Steelers “REALLY like” San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
He mentioned they’ve talked about a trade package for the star WR and what it would look like. He said that could include the Steelers 2025 first round draft pick.
Now, according to San Francisco Chronicle columnist Michael Silver, that trade is becoming more of a possibility.
According to an unnamed NFL General Manager, who talked to Silver, a trade “is very much in play” with the Niners for Aiyuk because the WR and San Francisco are “far apart” on a contract extension.
The Niners reportedly want a 2024 first-round pick for him, something one NFL executive called “too much”.
Poni proposed the following question on X (formally Twitter).
The Steelers have traded a first-round pick in the past. As recently as 2019, when they have up their 1st pick for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
The Steelers have not being acting very “Steelery” since Omar Khan became GM.
So, don’t be surprised if the Steelers made some noise on draft day.
Aiyuk had 75 catches last season for 1,342 yards with 7 touchdowns. He averaged 17.9 yards a carry, a career high.
Aiyuk went off on the Steelers in Week One of the 2023 season with eight catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns, torching Patrick Peterson for most of the game.
If the Steelers do acquire Aiyuk, they’re going to have to pay out to keep him in black and gold.
