If you go by what Steelers starting quarterback Kenny Pickett told Cam Heyward on his podcast recently, it sure sounds like Matt Canada isn’t going anywhere as offensive coordinator.

On his “Not Just Football with Cam Heyward” which was released this week, Pickett said, “we just need to take that jump into year two, we need more explosive plays and he’s doing a great job of trying to figure out what we need to do to get those and put up some more points, so I’m excited to continue to work with his this offseason.”
Unless Pickett is completely in the dark, it sure seems like Canada will be back calling the offense in 2023.
Pickett adds they have a “great relationship” going back to when he was recruited by Canada in 2015, before he left the Pitt program.
After becoming the starter, Pickett says his relationship with Canada continued to get better.
“We spend a lot of time together and he picks my brain on what I like and how I like it and throughout the game, asking me to rank plays and likes to see the game form the quarterback’s point of view and you know keeps things different,” said Pickett.
Pickett says he believes the team really turned it around after the bye week.
Add to that, Post-Gazette’s Steelers insider Gerry Dulac answering a question about the odds Canada doesn’t return saying, “The odds are very, very, very slim. In fact....”
The Steelers offense has hovered around the bottom of the NFL the past two seasons under Canada.
