Sounds like Matt Canada knows who is starting if Pickett can't go

With Kenny Pickett limited with a concussion during practice this week, both quarterbacks Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph have been splitting first-team snaps.

Having both Trubisky and Rudolph taking first team snaps puzzled many.

Why would Head Coach Mike Tomlin be holding a quarterback competition with only four games left in the season?

If Pickett can’t go, we still don’t know who will start, but offensive coordinator Matt Canada may have tipped his hand speaking to the media Thursday afternoon.

Canada indicated that they are prepping Rudolph just in case something happens to Trubisky.

Rudolph has spoken to the media twice this week and he says he wants the opportunity to play.

Rudolph also confirmed he has had hardly any snaps this entire season, so he’d be coming in cold if he has to play.

“We certainly don’t want to have happen what happened on Sunday, but on the what, fifth play of the game our quarterback got banged out,” said Canada. “I think it would be disservice to everybody to sit there and have Mason play and not have any reps.”

So, if Pickett doesn’t clear concussion protocol, it sounds like the Steelers will give Trubisky the start with Rudolph backing him up.
