Eliot Shorr-Parks says he is typically met with debate when expressing this take around the station, but he says the 76ers are “without question” a better-run organization than the Phillies, who are coming off a National League pennant.
“The Sixers are without question a better-run franchise, and they’ve had way more success,” ESP said. “History shows you the Sixers have a better chance of winning the title next year than the Phillies. The Sixers are far more competitive, they’re run better, they have a better best player, and they make the playoffs more consistently.”
Both franchises have two titles, with the Phillies having the far more recent one in 2008. However, the Sixers, while continuously running into a wall in the second round of the playoffs, are consistently postseason bound, while the Phillies just ended a painful playoff drought. Now, in the present, ESP says it’s still the 76ers who are better suited to win a championship.
“This Maxey/Painter thing, I’d rather hold onto Maxey, because the Sixers are already good enough,” ESP said. “The Phillies need something else.
The Sixers need depth and it’s the offseason, so they’ll add to their roster…but that aside, I am more willing to roll with status quo with the Sixers because I believe they’re good enough to win a title.”
