Joel Embiid very well might be the best basketball player in the world right now.

After another 40-point performance on the road yesterday in a win over the Bulls—where he shot 14-23 from the field—the Sixers' 27-year-old center now leads the NBA in scoring averaging 29.3 points per game, pulling slightly ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Embiid is averaging a remarkable 36.2 points, 12.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 2.0 blocks and shooting 53.1-percent from the field over his last 10 games.
Embiid also now has the highest points scored per 36 minutes in NBA history for a career with at least 300 games played, as pointed out by Jimmy McCormick on Twitter.

As for his MVP odds, they have risen from around +1300 just a few week ago, to +230 now, as Embiid is the odds on favorite to win the award.
The Sixers have won seven of their last 10 games behind Embiid's dominance to improve to 32-21, good for fifth in the East, but just 1.5 games behind the first placed Miami Heat.
With the NBA Trade Deadline just a few days away (Thursday, Feb. 10th), the Sixers will look to deal Ben Simmons and make a championship on the back of Embiid.
