Carson Wentz is now a member of the Indianapolis Colts, a sentence that still feels weird to type, considering he was the Eagles' prized possession and No. 2 overall pick just five short years ago.
On Thursday afternoon, Wentz had his introductory press conference with the Colts, where the Philadelphia media was banned from asking questions.
Wentz opened his press conference saying he wouldn't trade his five years with the Eagles for the world.
"I want to thank Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman, Doug Pederson, all of my teammates and staff who helped me tremendously in my first five years in Philly, wouldn't trade those years for the world," Wentz said at the beginning of his press conference. "We did some amazing things there.
"It wasn't the ending I envisioned," Wentz said about his time in Philadelphia. "I'm not gonna delve too much into those conversations, but I'm excited for this fresh start."
Wentz was the Eagles' No. 2 overall pick just five short years ago, when Howie Roseman famously moved up in the 2016 NFL Draft on two separate occasions. First, by trading LB Kiko Alonso and CB Byron Maxwell to the Dolphins in order to move up five slots and then trading three top 100 picks, a first round pick in 2017, and a second round pick in 2018 to the Browns in order to move from pick No. 8 to pick No. 2 overall.
After an unremarkable 7-9 rookie season where Wentz did show flashes of brilliance, he took off in 2017 throwing 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions, leading his team to an 11-2 record and the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC, before tearing his ACL in Week 14. Of course, Nick Foles took over, and the rest is history—the Philadelphia Eagles were crowned Super Bowl LII champs.
