DeVonta Smith spent two seasons catching balls from Jalen Hurts at Alabama and now the two are reunited in Philadelphia, as the Eagles selected Smith with the 10th overall pick in Thursday night's NFL Draft.
Smith joined Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Friday for his first radio interview since becoming an Eagle and spoke about his conversation with Hurts after being drafted.
"It was great," Smith said. "He was just happy, he was screaming, it was just exciting knowing that I've been knowing him since I was a recruit in high school and he recruited me to come to Alabama and now we're in Philadelphia."
At just 6'1", 175 pounds one of—maybe the only—knock on Smith is his size. But he's not worried about that.
"It ultimately comes down to you just doing your job," Smith said. "Size really doesn't matter when you have that dog eating that dog mentality just to get the job done."
When asked about the fans in Philadelphia, Smith had a perfect response.
"I heard the fans are wild. It's a blue collar city where the fans just love football and I mean that's a place you want to be. When you love football, you definitely want to be in a place like that."
