The Eagles suffered from some questionable coaching decisions, two major injuries and a several missed opportunities against the 49ers. Despite all that, there were flashes of dominance in the first half and some positive takeaways in an early season loss.
It prompted the question from the Marks and Reese Show on Monday: after the loss, are you more encouraged or discouraged by this Eagles team?
"I'm kinda encouraged," said Donovan McNabb. "I came into this thing with an open mind and I think lots of people came in like oh, we have a new coach, Carson Wentz is gone and Jalen Hurts is our guy. It took them awhile to even think Jalen Hurts was the starting quarterback, which we all knew he was. So now, people are on edge from that aspect."
McNabb, who joins the Marks and Reese Show every Monday at 4pm, was positive about the on-field performance of the Eagles despite the tough loss.
"For me, when I look at this football team, I'm encouraged because I didn't particularly think we had a great draft and I didn't think we were wowing anyone with free agents. From the first game, I was shocked by how things were flowing from both sides, including special teams. I knew at some point that it would be an indirect to where we are after game two, and it is going to be like this at least for a couple games this season. But I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing. I'm seeing at least a football team that is fighting. There is a great effort from a lot of players on the football field, and it seems like they are buying in to what Nick Sirianni is selling. I'm expecting this team to continue to elevate as we go through the season."
The former franchise quarterback also preached patience when thinking about this game.
"We have a lot of young guys, we have a new head coach, we just played an experienced team that was coming back from injuries last year."
