The competition at left tackle is over.
Eagles left tackle Andre Dillard suffered a knee sprain on Tuesday during practice that will keep out multiple weeks, and should basically guarantee that Jordan Mailata will start Week 1 vs. Atlanta.
Mailata was already winning the training camp battle for the job, outplaying Dillard and looking like the clearly better option at left tackle. Considering Dillard is a former first-round pick, however, he was being given every chance to win the job.
Now that he will likely miss the rest of training camp and has been outplayed there is almost no chance he comes back to win the job from Mailata.
The knee injury might not be serious, but it yet another step back for Dillard as he tries to make good on the potential that made him a first-round pick. Dillard missed all of last season with a shoulder injury after having a disappointing rookie season.
The team was hopeful he was going to take a step forward this season, but now there is a chance he doesn't see the field at all if Mailata stays healthy.
