The Eagles accomplished their goal on Sunday night in their 20-14 loss to Washington, and as a result, their draft pick for the 2021 NFL Draft is now set at No. 6.
The Eagles were in the game for most of the night, but pulled quarterback Jalen Hurts at the start of the fourth quarter for backup Nate Sudfeld. Sudfeld promptly turned the ball over twice in his first five snaps, basically ending any chance the Eagles had to win.
The pick is the first time their selection has landed in the top 10 since 2013, when they had the No. 4 pick in the draft and selected offensive tackle Lane Johnson. The Eagles selected inside the top 10 in 2016, when selected quarterback Carson Wentz at No. 2 overall, but they moved up to the No. 2 spot after starting at No. 13.
Wentz, of course, will be a name that will come up plenty this offseason when discussing the team’s draft pick. Landing at No. 6 hurts their chances of getting a quarterback, as two will almost certainly be going with the top-two picks, leaving the Eagles with — at best — the third-best prospect.
The good news is that at No. 6 there is a good chance they will have their choice of the top wide receivers in the draft, between LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase, and the duo from Alabama of Davonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle.
So what kind of talent has been selected at the No. 6 pick in the past?
