ESPN's Dan Orlovsky has been one of the biggest Carson Wentz supporters even through the tough times. Amidst a full-blown quarterback controversy in Philadelphia, Orlovsky provides some hope about weather Wentz can turn his "broken" play around:
"The right people can absolutely fix Carson Wentz, but it's going to come to trust. When I hear those postgame press conference comments from Wentz saying 'I didn't really know the plan, I was told Jalen Hurts might go in for that first play and then maybe a series', that's the biggest concern I have. The question becomes how does Carson Wentz ever trust the general manager Howie Roseman and the head coach Doug Pederson? How was there not the conversation of 'hey Carson, right now you aren't playing good enough and our offense is struggling.
If that continues to be the case in this game, Jalen is going in, and if Jalen plays well he is going to continue to stay in. There can't be this gray area right now for this offense."
In his postgame press conference, Wentz was also asked if the organization has put him in a position to succeed, saying he could play better and is not the kind of guy to point fingers. With a rotating cast of wide receivers over the last few years, the never ending shuffle of the offensive line and the loud presence of a backup quarterback throughout his career, Wentz has regressed along with the team since his 2017 season.
Despite the number of issues facing the franchise, the most important for Orlovsky is who the Eagles decide to build around:
"II said this last week, the biggest question in this organization is do they believe either Doug Pederson or Carson Wentz is their future. Because if they believe its Carson Wentz, then they need to find someone that can rebuild the trust. Right now the trust between the player and coach is completely broken. The question becomes what about 2021? If you move to Jalen Hurts for the next four games, you bring into question 2021. I don't care about the money, I understand it’s very difficult. When you decide it's time to move on, I don't know if you can bring back the guy that you benched with the same coaching staff."
