Another practice, another win for the Eagles.
No, they won't be keeping official records for the Eagles two-day joint practice session with the New England Patriots — but if they did, the Eagles moved to 2-0 on Tuesday after convincingly winning Monday's practice as well.
Tuesday’s session was focused primarily on red zone work, with both the Eagles starters on offense and defense going against the starters on the Patriots.
The Eagles offense moved the ball effectively against the Patriots in both 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills. The day started with Jalen Hurts hitting tight end Dallas Goedert for a touchdown on hi third pass of the day, finding him along the front of the left side of the end zone in 11-on-11 drills. Hurts and Goedert connected again for a touchdown two sessions later, this time on a perfectly designed play from the 10-yard line that resulted in Goedert walking the ball in from about five yards out.
Goedert finished the day with three touchdowns, easily his best day of training camp so far.
One of Hurts’ best throws of the day was to tight end Zach Ertz, who he found in the right back corner of the end zone for a touchdown in 11-on-11 drills.
Hurts was once again very effective throwing the ball. It seems like something has really clicked for him over the last few practices, including the preseason opener. He has been very accurate and decisive with his passes, especially from the pocket. Hurts finished the day 8/14 with four touchdowns. There is no question Hurts has had his best two days of camp against the Patriots, which is a very good sign for the Eagles considering they have been the most competitive days of practice so far.
The Eagles defense once again got the better of the Patriots starters as well.
The Patriots had no answers for how to move the ball against the Eagles early on, and at one point they ran 14 consecutive plays from inside the 20-yard line without scoring a touchdown. It wasn’t until backup quarterback Mac Jones got in that the Patriots started to have some success. Jones had a strong day in his limited reps, throwing four touchdowns, one of which came against the Eagles’ starters. Jones did throw an interception, however, the second day in a row the Eagles have picked off the Patriots quarterback.
Like Monday, Tuesday was a great day for the Eagles receivers. Jalen Reagor had the highlight catch of the day (and the best catch in camp overall) when he pulled in a one-handed, leaping catch in the back right corner of the end zone. Reagor has looked more-and-more like the special receiver the Eagles hoped they were getting when they drafted him in the first round last year.
Add in the fact that DeVonta Smith returned for team drills and Tuesday’s practice couldn’t have been much better for the Eagles.
