Angelo Cataldi asked FOX Sports NFL analyst Mike Garafolo on Wednesday if the Eagles would really go down the road of acquiring Texans QB Deshaun Watson via trade despite 22 civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct with massage therapists.
"They would prefer not to," Garafolo said on 94WIP
"You're talking about next offseason and I don't mean early next offseason. This could really drag into late Spring, early Summer where teams will have to make decisions on Deshaun Watson. Settling these cases is probably the quickest way for him if he wants to resume his NFL career."
The NFL released a statement on Tuesday stating that "there are no restrictions on Watson’s participation in club activities.”
Watson was in attendance at Texans practice on Wednesday.
"Now, the onus is on the Texans," Garafolo explained. "What do you want to do? If you don't want this guy here, you want to trade him, he doesn't want to be here, how to do you handle this in the meantime? Do you just trade him for as best as you can get right now? Or do you say, 'Hey Deshaun, go home we'll pay you, we'll put you on paid leave.'"
Multiple reports, on Monday, indicated that Houston is seeking a mega package for Watson that would include "some combination of at least five “high draft picks and starting caliber players," according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
