The Eagles will be without their top running back as they finish their run into the playoffs.
Eagle running back Miles Sanders has a broken bone in his hand and won't play this upcoming Sunday against the Washington Football Team, head coach Nick Sirianni said on Monday.
The good news is that Sanders will not be placed on Injured Reserve, meaning his season is not over. Sirianni said the team is hopeful he will play again this season.
Sanders left the team's win over the New York Giants in the first half and did not return. He did drop a pass prior to leaving, a drop that likely came as a result of the broken bone.
NovaCare Dr. Mark Schwartz joined Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday to discuss Sanders' injury. Schwartz is concerned he suffered a metacarpal fracture, which could keep Sanders out 4-6 weeks.
The loss of Sanders is a big one, even if the team has run the ball successfully without him. Sanders is not only the best home-run hitter on the team at the running back position but he is 7th overall in the NFL in yards-per-carry with an average off 5.5 yards.
With Sanders out the team will turn to Boston Scott and rookie Kenny Gainwell. Jordan Howard could potentially be in the rotation, but Sirianni would not commit to Howard (stinger) playing this Sunday.
Sanders has had a frustrating season overall, as he suffered his ankle injury right before the offense started running the ball all the time, and has now suffered a hand injury right before the final run to the playoffs.
Add in that he hasn’t gotten into the end zone despite strong play overall, and the 2021 season is becoming one Sanders will likely want to forget.
