All that is left for Bryce Harper in order to return to the Phillies lineup is clearance to slide head first, something that could happen around May 1st.

"He's doing great," Phillies manager Rob Thomson told the 94WIP Morning Show on Wednesday. "He's seeing live pitching almost every day...He's getting his timing down, he's getting used to the clock, he's getting ground balls, he's running the bases, he's sliding feet first.

"He's got an appointment with his doctor around the first of May, the guy that did the surgery. And once we get clearance for him to slide head first, then he's pretty close to going into the game as our DH."

"Amazing," Jon Ritchie replied.

"It really is," Thomson said. "It's a testament to him and our training staff because he's worked extremely hard and if it happens when it happens, he's going to be one of the quickest, if not the quickest, guys back from this injury in history."

The Phillies begin a three-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers on Monday, May 1st and return home to face the Red Sox on Friday, May 5th.

This video of Harper throwing pregame yesterday circulating on social media, as Phillies fans are eagerly awaiting Harper's return to the lineup.

After a very rough start to the season, the Phils have played better and have battled back to a record of 11-13.

"I actually feel pretty good about it, regardless of last night," Thomson said, as the Phils lost 5-3 to the Marines on Tuesday. "I think we're pitching better. Our starters are giving us some length. Our bullpen seems to be straightened out...Our offense has been fine. I feel good about the club."
