The atmosphere should be wild when the Warriors and Kings clash at Golden 1 Center on Saturday at 5:30 PT.
While Sacramento has ended its NBA-record 17-season playoff drought, Warriors fans in the Bay Area can make the drive up to see the Dubs make their title defense.
Damien Barling, co-host of the "D-Lo and KC Show" for ESPN 1320 in Sacramento, joined 95.7 The Game’s “The Morning Roast” Monday to discuss why he’s expecting an “obnoxious” environment for Game 1 of Warriors-Kings. It could be an intense one for Kings fans, who may have been enamored by the Warriors success over the past few years.
“The bigger thing is the fanbase,” Barling told Bonta Hill and Joe Shasky. “Because the Kings have been so bad, for so long, a lot of the Kings fans went to the new hotness that started to emerge in the NBA in 2013, 2014. You had this baby-faced assassin (Steph Curry) who turned out to be the greatest shooter of all-time, one of the most exciting players we’ve ever seen. Of course. I don’t blame any Kings fan who gravitated to supporting the Golden State Warriors.
“For those that rode it out. For those that dealt that with the 12, 13 head coaches, the multiple general managers, the multiple relocation sagas, the guy puking at half court. For those that dealt with all of that – they’re the ones who look at it like, ‘Ugh, we’re gonna have to deal with all these bandwagon clowns that come in here into our arena.’ Probably driving up the ticket prices and making for an obnoxious Saturday night on primetime television.”
The boys were cordial on the air Monday, but Shasky had to get in a quick dig after the interview. Barling saw it and took note.
“It’s cute that they think they have a chance,” Shasky said. “It’s pretty cute. We’re not losing to the Kings. The Warriors dynasty – they haven’t lost to a Western Conference ever during this Steph Curry run it feels like. And they’re gonna lose to the Kings in the first round? Come on.”
“Hey man,” Bonta said. “Frisco Shasky appearing on a Monday morning.”
“They are adorable,” Shasky said.
