Steph Curry’s epic performance Friday night might rank as the best of his Hall of Fame career (so far). But where does Game 4 rank among magical Warriors playoff games of the Dubs Dynasty era?
The Athletic’s Anthony Slater joined 95.7 The Game’s “The Morning Roast” Monday to give his “Mt. Rushmore” off the top of his head. Slater also previewed Monday night’s Game 5, which will tip-off at 6 p.m. PT on 95.7 The Game.
“Like the Mt. Rushmore, I don’t know exactly where I’d place it. But it’s right up there – OKC Game 6 (in the 2016 Western Conference Finals), obviously as you mentioned. Houston Game 6 (in the 2018 Western Conference Finals) without KD (Kevin Durant). Toronto Game 5 (in the NBA Finals) post-KD’s achilles (injury) and you thought the life had been sucked out of them – they actually got good minutes from Demarcus Cousins in that game and remember those threes at the end. I know they didn’t beat Toronto, but at least they gave ‘em one last dagger in the heart. That (Toronto) crowd was ready to celebrate an NBA title. This one’s right up there.”
We all know about the time Game 6 Klay was born, as he hit 11 3-pointers on the road in Oklahoma City and evened the series back at 3-3. In the 2018 game Slater referenced, the Warriors outscored the Rockets 66-25 in the second half to tie up the series.
In the 2019 game, the Warriors gutted out a 106-105 win in Toronto to extend the series one more game. Alas, they lost the series and the title, so the contest often gets lost in the memory banks.
Slater said a championship would obviously solidify Curry’s performance for the ages.
“They need to win this series for everything to feel its full weight,” Slater said. “For that Steph Curry performance and that win to take on legendary status, to me, they need to win the series.”
