Jimmy Garoppolo has been an easy target for criticism this postseason with his pedestrian statistics.
In last week’s iconic 13-10 win over the Green Bay Packers, Garoppolo went 11-for-19 for 131 yards and a touchdown, which he threw in the red zone. Still, he made a couple of key passes to set up Robbie Gould’s game-winner as time expired and earned the praise of his teammates like George Kittle and Nick Bosa after the game.
On Wednesday afternoon, 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel joined in the Jimmy G chorus, voicing his support via Twitter.
Samuel has been Garoppolo’s top target this season, catching 83 passes for 1,477 yards and six touchdowns, including the playoffs. He’s got a point about Jimmy G’s record.
Despite the popular narrative that he’s a limited, mediocre, overpaid quarterback, Garoppolo is 35-15 through his first 50 games as the 49ers quarterback since 2017. Not to mention he’s 4-1 in the playoffs and on the verge of taking the team to its second Super Bowl in three years, as the 49ers face the Los Angeles Rams in Sunday’s NFC Championship.

On Wednesday, Garoppolo told reporters about his mentality when it comes to blocking the outside criticism.
“Friends, family, they always seem to remind me of those things,” Garoppolo said. “I think just knowing yourself and knowing who you are plays a big part of that, because if you get lost in it and start believing some of those things, it could take you down the wrong road. So I don't know, I think it's just about knowing yourself as a player, as a person and as long as these guys in this locker room have faith in me and belief in me, that's all I really care about.”
