Is Deebo Samuel using social media to expedite his exit from the 49ers?

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio joined 95.7 The Game’s “The Morning Roast” Thursday on the morning of the 2022 NFL Draft first round. There is plenty of draft day intrigue surrounding Deebo, who has used Twitter and Instagram to post messages about his situation with the 49ers, where he seems upset about something. Check out the full audio below:

“I think that’s why some of the teams are willing to move on from these guys,” Florio told hosts Bonta Hill and Joe Shasky. “They understand players can make it a hell of a lot more difficult and make it much more of a distraction now than ever before, when they can speak directly to the fans, directly to the media, directly to anyone who’s paying attention.”

Samuel reportedly has requested a trade and it would behoove the 49ers to get their hands on a 2022 first-rounder if possible. San Francisco fans might be on edge all night despite the team not having a selection until No. 61 at the end of the second round on Friday.

Deebo endeared himself to the fanbase with a spectacular regular season when he led the NFL with 18.2 yards per reception and set an NFL wide receiver record with eight rushing touchdowns and gained over 2,000 yards from scrimmage including the playoffs. Over the last few weeks, his behavior – mostly captured through social media – has turned off a large sect of the 49ers Faithful.

“That’s the thing – if he’s willing to make the heel turn with the fanbase, and they turn on him, that may be the quickest way to convince the organization to let him go,” Florio said. “Because, if you do find a way to repair the relationship between the team and Deebo, the next challenge is preparing the relationship between Deebo and the fanbase.”
