Marco Luciano was the latest Giants prospect to earn a call-up to the bigs this week, as he made his MLB debut on Wednesday.
On the latest episode of Audacy Sports’ Garlic Fries and Baseball Guys podcast, hosts Sam Lubman and Joe Shasky discussed why they were “frustrated” with the decision to pinch-hit for Matos during his third at-bat, when the A’s put a right-hander on the mound.

“How can I even earn your trust?,” Shasky said. “My first opportunity to face somebody from the other side and you don’t even give me a chance. My first opportunity!”
The Giants elected to pinch-hit lefty Joc Pederson, who promptly popped out. It was only one at-bat, but Lubman and Shasky want to see the 21-year-old get an opportunity.
“This is the same thing I said about Casey Schmitt and (Luis) Matos. Play them for a month,” Shasky said. “Just give them the month. You gotta have their backs. Hey, you’re gonna have some struggles. You’re gonna be up and down. It’s not about one singular at-bat. It’s about the body of work and putting together good at-bat after good at-bat and stacking those victories. That’s the problem.”
