ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A shooting has been reported at Central Visual and Performing Arts high school on Kingshighway and Arsenal in St. Louis.
Authorities have reported three injured victims so far. They report that a suspect is in custody, and that authorities are sweeping the school.
UPDATE 10:24 a.m.: Parents are instructed to pick up their students at Gateway STEM, 5101 McRee Ave.
UPDATE 10:49 a.m.: One student told KMOX that the shooter shot through the window of the classroom he was in, and reached through to open the door. When he entered, he said to the teacher, "It's time to die." He then reportedly shot the teacher and at least one student. The eyewitness didn't clarify if the shooter was another student.
UPDATE 11:26 a.m.: The St. Louis Police Department said that eight individuals, including the shooter, were transported to the hospital. The suspect and two others are deceased, an adult woman and a teenage girl. Police are not identifying the deceased until their families have been notified.
Police said the doors to the school were locked, which gave the shooter "pause," but they did not clarify how the suspect entered the building. They confirmed that there was an exchange of gunfire between police and the suspect.
UPDATE 12:29 p.m. St. Louis Public Schools have put their schools on lockdown today. In a statement, they said, "In an abundance of caution, all SLPS schools are on HARD lockdown, which means that for the remainder of the day there will be limited movement in and outside the schools. At dismissal, all scheduled buses will leave at the appointed time."
"We are asking that any parents who want to come to school and pick up a student, please call the school in advance and let the office know when and who will be picking up the student. The student will be walked out to them."
They also note that all after-school activities are cancelled for the day.
UPDATE 2:37 p.m.: Four patients were seen at Children's Hospital and two were seen at Barnes-Jewish. Their conditions reportedly range from stable to serious.
