Americans spent $14 billion shopping while drunk last year

While we were all locked in at home during the pandemic, there wasn’t much else we could do to occupy our time than shop online.  And drink.

That trend has continued into 2023, as last year Americans spent roughly $14 billion shopping while drunk!

Though it’s a decrease from 2021, where we spent $21.6 billion drunk shopping, last year we all, on average, spent $423.73 each buying things after hitting the sauce.

Our favorite categories of items included: shoes, clothes or accessories, and food. The survey, according to The Spirits Business, showed 47% of drunk shoppers bought items under these categories.

The popular items we bought that followed those included buying more alcohol, cigarettes, and gambling.

The survey also found that men were more likely to shop while under the influence than women, with more than a quarter (26%) of men admitting to buying something after drinking, compared with 10% of women.
