Is TikTok a Chinese data collection platform?

"The things they know about you would probably startle most parents," said Jake Denton

Heritage Foundation scholar Jake Denton joins the Mark Reardon Show to discuss the possibility of TikTok being a Chinese data collection platform and not just a harmless video app.

“Every single person’s feed is different. No one feed is the same as another. The things they know about you would probably startle most parents, whether it's your geolocation, or just the fact that you respond better to a certain color palette,” shared Denton

Later he warned, “They are not pushing, necessarily, microtargeted advertisements, they are pushing microtargeted content. They are encouraging the child to become addicted to the platform and addicted in a very unhealthy way.”

“The Chinese version of the app pushes self-help content, ours pushes sexually depraved content. Things that really corrupt the minds of our children and it undermines the core principals of our American culture,” Denton continued.
