A group of lawmakers in North Carolina believe that there is a serious problem with the youth of today: participation trophies.

No matter how you finish after a sports season, everyone gets a trophy, and they think that mindset making is making our kids too soft.

Last Thursday, Senators Tim Moffitt, Bobby Hanig, and Eddie Settle introduced the "Eliminate Participation Trophies Act," which would ban them at all youth sporting events in North Carolina that are sponsored by state or local governments.

Per WLOS, the proposed law states:

“Youth sports or other youth recreation activities operated under the authority of a local government shall not include awards for participants based solely on their participation in the sport or other activity.

Awards provided in connection with the activity, if any, shall be based on identified performance achievements."

The bill does not specify the age range for which the proposed law might apply, only noting it would be applied to "youth" activities sponsored by the state.
