Professional grade technology is coming to high school baseball.
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is giving the green light to electronic communication in high school baseball.
Coaches in the dugout will be allowed use a device for one-way communication from the coach to the catcher in order to call pitches
Justin Weiner is the varsity baseball coach at Glenbrook North High School. He said the technology is used at the college level, and it will help high school players transition into college ball and beyond.
“I think that the way we can help these kids and utilize this technology to, number one, better their and also prepare them for that next level and prepare them, potentially, a career in baseball, the better we are,” Weiner said.
He said he’s looking forward to using it next year, if the price is right.
“I would love to implement it next year at Glenbrook North, and I think it would certainly help us from a communicative standpoint,” Weiner said.
