Have you ever felt hangry? New research shows it's a real feeling.
Feeling hungry can make you feel hangry, according to a small study from the United Kingdom and Austria.
Participants in the study were asked to keep track of their feelings and levels of hunger five times a day over a three-week period; they found that this hunger was associated with greater levels of anger and irritability, as well as lower levels of pleasure.

Bur being able to label an emotion can help you cope with this feeling, said Birmingham psychiatrist Dr. Howard Belkin.
"This emphasizes what we as psychiatrists have been saying to people for over a century -- that if you are comfortable with and understand your emotions, you are going to be better able to handle that emotion," he said.
He says feeling hangry can also lead to someone lashing out, and in order to prevent that one has to learn how to control it.
"If we remember what is secondary to that feeling of being hangry we can stop it -- we can control it," he said. "We can take a couple of breaths, maybe grab a little bit of a snack, and prevent a fight."

The researchers offered one way to alleviate feeling hangry -- which is to have a bite to eat.
